With one of the biggest pump fakes the rap industry has witnessed in a minute, the roman numeral “4” recently posted on Kendrick Lamar’s Instagram alluded to his dropping of “The Heart Part 4”. While the post sent shock-waves across the industry in hopes of its allusion to his fourth studio album, the song did make mention of a potential release date. As noted in the bar “Y’all got ’til April the 7th to get y’all shit together”, this potential release date could clash with Joey Bada$$’ highly-anticipated project, ‘All-AmeriKKan Bada$$’. With Kendrick’s astonishingly successful portfolio that’s been crafted over the past several years, hype for his upcoming project is increasingly high. In a recent conversation with the New York Times, Kendrick stated this:
“To Pimp a Butterfly was addressing the problem. I’m in a space now where I’m not addressing the problem anymore. We’re in a time where we exclude one major component out of this whole thing called life: God. Nobody speaks on it because it’s almost in conflict with what’s going on in the world when you talk about politics and government and the system.”
Kendrick has always preached originality in his projects, and signs point to yet another gem for the industry. While Kendrick’s “The Heart Part 4” marked the release of his first single of 2017, he recently made a notable feature on Thudercat’s “Walk on By”. His verse demonstrated unique lyrical prowess, and bars that left us as listeners craving more. As the countdown until April 7th begins, we can pray that his fourth studio album satisfies the entire industry.
